The Senior Athlete Fitness Examination (SAFE) was specifically designed by physical therapist, Dr. Becca Jordre, to measure the fitness level of senior athletes and has been used on thousands of athletes at the national and state games. For more information about the exam, visit the NSGA website. To listen to Dr. Jordre talk about the exam, watch this video.
The Des Moines University Department of Physical Therapy will be sponsoring the Senior Athlete Fitness Examination (SAFE) during the Iowa Senior Games on Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the West Des Moines Valley High School cafeteria. The SAFE will be conducted by physical therapists and physical therapy students under the direct supervision of licensed physical therapists. Athletes’ blood pressure, body composition, strength, flexibility, balance, and mobility are all measured, and then athletes receive feedback on their performance from a physical therapist.
The SAFE takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. The SAFE will be available starting at 8:30 AM on a walk-in basis and will run until at 12:30 PM. The SAFE is offered at no charge.
